I just moved to forest grove from springfield, and just two years before that i lived in virginia. so I have that souther accent. so i know very little about the area and i do try to explore it when i can. I love animals right now i own two doves and i do have a dog but since my apt complex doesn't allow dogs she stays at my moms house. Hi there! I'm back in the US again after my year in England. Yes, I loved it, and I cant wait to go back!

I'm definitely not the shy type but i can't for the life of me think of anything to put in this self summary that doesn't sound as generic as humanely possible. I'm 24, single, and wouldn't mind finding someone to, date, befriend, be-better-friend, whatever. Generally just interested in meeting people.
I'm a people person by nature and usually have no trouble fitting in with with any social group. I like having diversity with my friends. Always keeps things interesting. I listen to it a lot. I like to read when I get the chance. I love the water. I love the ocean. I dont go to the ocean as much as I would like. I am a romantic. Actually a die hard romantic. Those long walks on the beaches with the ocean bathing your feet in the blue moonlight sounds really good to me. I am persistant. I try not to give up. I like to keep going, keep that ball rolling no matter what obstacles try to stop it!!!

I am ridiculously inappropriate pretty much all the time. I often read while I watch television while I eat breakfast. I think I come off as pretentious or rude but I'm mostly just shy. I couldn't live without books or music. I don't really have any hobbies, unless a left-handed person can help me learn to crotchet properly. I have a terrible habit of interrupting people on occasion. I'm a pescatarian but I don't really like fish, just some things that have fish products in them.

I am trying to put myself out there so here I am. I am a very laid back guy. I can be shy at first but once I get to know ya it is on for a good time.

I love to hang out with family or friends for grabbing a bite to eat or drinking a good beer. I love to push myself in life and in sports. I have lived in the Portland area all my life, but have seen a lot of the world as well. I have been to Europe, Canada, Mexico and all over the states.

I am a big fan of paying it forward, so I am always helping people out and treating people like I would like to be treated.

I love to play and listen to any type of music. I am learning to play the guitar and have had a few trials in learning. I also try play the drums. I have been playing for about 3 years and loving it.

I love to play any sport from backyard football, softball to soccer but my passion is hockey. I love the Detroit Redwings. I will take any opportunity to watch a game.

I also love to be outdoors. Be it just hanging out in the woods on a hike or on a bike ride. It is nice to get out and see the world. There is so much to see in Oregon and Washington. I love to be in the water or out hiking a hill -- I love it all.

My new sport is Disc golf. It is really fun. It is like golf but you use a frisbee and shoot for the baskets. There are a lot of courses around Portland and I am having a good time playing at them. I am getting my dad and some other people involved also and they are liking it.

I am a pretty outgoing person. I love to hang out with my friends when I have time and I am really close with my family. I am the second oldest of 8. That makes 10 of us total. :) I am a hard worker, and proud of it!

I am a country girl at heart, yes that means I pretty much live in my jeans. Don't get me wrong, I like to get dolled up every once in a while (aka: once a year or so. lol). Anything in the sun is super fun.

I enjoy the outdoors, I like to go on hikes and snap as many pictures as i can.I like to golf and fish.I walk every day. I was a swimmer in high school and college, I do get to the pool at times. I would rather go on a long hike, or a walk on the beach.

I'm an optimistic, worldly guy who likes to get the most out of life! I enjoy hiking, reading, working out, movies, thinking, talking, laughing hard, stargazing, and a wide variety of musical genres. I also like to get out and have good, spontaneous, healthy fun every once in a while. I've seen my fair share of the country, having lived in Texas, Illinois, New York, and Oregon at one point or another.

A brief interlude for my extremely condensed resume. I've a formal background in physics, electrical engineering, and math, and I have a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from Cornell University. I joined the ranks of Intel's research and development labs in Hillsboro (outside Portland), where I am working as a process researcher/engineer. The job is a lot of work, but it has its rewards and benefits.

I like enjoy messing around with toys in my spare time (electronics, radios, etc.). I've been working on my living arrangements for quite a while now, cutting, hammering, sawing, painting, re-arranging, cleaning, building, and lifting. At some point I'll be moderately satisfied enough to take a break from that effort. I also have a strong interest in philosophy, and the "larger picture" of life. However, I'm not religious at all. Politically speaking, I am strongly libertarian.

I believe that the biggest problem humanity is the problem of senescence (growing old and dying). Unlike most people, I do not believe that aging and death are inevitable, and I want to use my life, in part, to work on a scientific or technical solution to the aging problem (or at least part of it). From a research and academic perspective, I believe that senescence does not receive the attention it deserves. It is the "disease" that everyone has, yet everyone thinks is "normal". I don't take that assumption so lightly.

I'd really like to find someone to come home to every day, but I'm willing to work up to that point. I'm a fairly stable, hard-working, attractive, and intellectual person, and I'd like to find someone with similar characteristics and values.

The first thing people usually notice about me is that I have a calming presence. I'm not sure why that is (not really sure what that is), but people have always told me that, even before I became a Zen Buddhist monk in 1991. Although I "returned to the marketplace" in 1997, I would still say my experiences at Zen Mountain Monastery in Mt. Tremper, NY and Tassajara Monastery in Carmel Valley, CA had a profound influence on my life.

Being in nature is one of the keys to my happiness, and that is one of the reasons I moved to the Portland, Oregon area in 2007. Before that I spent 16 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, and before that, 22 years in Philadelphia, PA. Here, I spend a lot of my spare time hiking and birding whenever I can. I've also done some animal tracking including taking Tom Brown's courses.

There are few things I enjoy more than riding my bike, though. I still remember the first thrill of riding my first two-wheeler at age 8. That's another thing I love about living here - it is so bike friendly. My home is in Hillsboro, and there are so many places near by to go for a quick ride after work or a longer ride on weekends.

Not much to say really, a typical guy. Also, that's not my real picture. Too embarrassing if someone I know were to see me on here.
