A plan to honor Utah gun inventor John M. Browning won't lead to a shared state holiday after all. Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Eagle Mountain, drew controversy when he first discussed proclaiming a holiday shared between Browning and the existing January holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Investigators say that when an Eagle Mountain man's 9-year-old daughter failed to turn in her homework at school, her father pulled out his belt. A short time later, he was booked into Utah County Jail on multiple counts of child abuse.
